Deseret Foundation

The story of Deseret Foundation e.V. began in 2016 when Victoria Knobloch, who had practiced Buddhism and explored spirituality in India, was guided by intuition to Uganda, Africa, in search of a volunteering opportunity.

Victoria met and learned about the children’s problems while helping at Deseret
Community School in Uganda. Among the many obstacles were a lack of access to
basic essentials such as school supplies, food, clothing, clean water as well as
healthcare that came as a shock to her given that these challenges were unfamiliar back in her native Germany.

She was then inspired by Ms. Lufafa Rose and Mr. Kalangwa Gideon’s unconditional love and dedication to provide education to disadvantaged children in the village despite having more or less no resources.

Victoria Knobloch, alongside Ms. Lufafa Rose and Mr. Kalangwa Gideon, birthed the Deseret Foundation e.V., a non-profit association based in Leipzig that would through its operations try and lessen the burden children have to undergo to acquire education and enable them lead healthy and dignified lives.

From that point on, Deseret Foundation e.V. has dedicated itself towards providing
education, food and medical supplies to children and elderly people living in poverty. Also, the association tries to figure out new ways of development in agriculture and other necessary skills for sustainability based on African culture.

Further it emphasizes strongly the development of the mind by growth in wisdom, in mental and physical health as well as psychological and spiritual wholeness.

MISSION STATEMENT

To inspire self-reliance, mitigate poverty and restore hope by providing quality and accessible education.

STATISTICAL FACTS

In Uganda, 41% of people live in poverty, and nearly half of its population is under 15years of age, representing one of the youngest populations in the world to be in distressing need.

To an impoverished community, the cost of schooling and supplies often forces
families to choose between education and basic needs, sidelining education. Out of the 53% of children that complete primary education, only 25% struggle to advance to secondary education till completion due to poor literacy and numeracy skills.
Deseret Foundation e.V.’s mission is to fight poverty in Uganda through providing quality and accessible education.
