With the support of the Friedrich Pongratz Foundation, we were able to purchase 600 picture books for preschoolers. Small children are learning visually and through play and imagination, so they naturally love picture books. In Uganda, reading and writing in school often begins at a very young age, but is often taught far too abstract. This abstract learning is too difficult to grasp for the child’s brain and pictures are much easier to remember. In addition, students learn best when the school material is packaged in stories, then the learning material feels alive and can therefore be processed in a child-friendly way. Our children were very happy about the books.
